Tying A Halyard
From MEFD
Ground ladders must have their halyards secured prior to climbing. The halyard should be tied with a clove hitch around a rung followed by an overhand safety knot around the vertical section of halyard. You must be able to tie the knots with your structure gloves on.
Be aware that some ladders have free halyards and others have secured halyards. The tying techniques are different.
These videos provide a few techniques you may find useful.
