The Board of Volunteer Firefighters provides two major functions for you as a firefighter: A pension and accident reporting.
MEFD pays into your pension as long as you meet the minimum training and response requirements. You are vested in the pension after 10 years of service. Details here.
If you are injured during training or response it must be reported on the BVFF website. An officer will guide you through this process.
